In 2003, the Hauts-Pays Nature Park GIS consists of :
- The perimeter of the park.
- The boundaries of the park districts and their limits before merger. Each district is accompanied by details of the population and the various sectors of activity. All the data on agricultural activities are also available. Just click on a district to find out all this information.
- Topographic maps at 1/100,000 and 1/10,000. Eight 1/10,000 maps represent the whole of the nature pari: 45/5, 45/6, 45/7, 45/8, 51/1, 51/2, 51/3 and 51/4. These are Raster type maps.
- The hydrographic system covers all the water courses and man made lakes in the park.
The landscapes. The landscapes map has been produced specifically for the Nature Park. The major landscape units present are zones dominated by crops, meadows, forests and buildings.
- The isolated features of the landscape. These are water towers, little chapels, pylons, etc.
- Relief is shown by means of contour lines.
- The road network.
- The land occupancy covers all features covered by the park territory such as farming land, deciduous forests, ordinary and religious buildings, barns, etc.
- The sector plan. The Hauts-Pays Nature Park is within the Mons-Borinage sector.
- The ecological network set up by the Province of Hainaut Land Development Department lists areas of biological interest.
Areas which do not have the same potential are classified according to the biological quality of the environments represented or the species living there.
- The sites designated to be integrated in the Natura 2000 network, distinguishing between special protection areas (SPA) and special conservation areas (SCA).
- An inventory of the hedges present within the park. This section has been raised especially for the Hauts-Pays Nature Park. Each hedge has been listed, identified, photographed and then digitized. A click on any hedge will give its length, its height, how it is maintained, etc.
- The tourist curiosities of the Park, like the Caillou-qui-Bique, the Place de Montignies-sur-Roc,…
- The tourist potential. This section, which is specific to the Hauts-Pays Nature Park, shows the craftsmen, producers, self-catering cottages, restaurants, etc.
- A more specifically agricultural section shows all the farmers practicing agro-environmental measures (AEM) within the park and which measures are involved.
The Hauts-Pays Nature Park geographical information system
An example: the hedges.
Each hedge is represented according to its type. The precise location (district, previous district, geographical coordinates), the plant species available in large numbers and the maintenance carried out are given for each item.
For ease of locating the hedges listed, a topographic base (1/10 000) is given in the "hedges" section.
Two more sections have been added: the hydrographic system (blue lines) and features of tourist interest.
A set of hedges is located on either side of a building near a waterway.
On the sector plan, this set of hedges is shown in an agricultural area.
Photographs of hedges complete the information - just click on a hedge, and it will appear on screen.
